Tuition

We are committed to offering options for those who need help paying the full tuition. Waivers are submitted for review before the first class. *No one will be turned away due to the inability to pay tuition.

Covid-19 Safety

For continued safety and compliance with CDC (Centers for Disease Control), each classroom will be thoroughly cleaned before and after each session. Students will be encouraged to wear a face mask (gloves are optional). Students will be reminded of safety procedures such as distancing and cleanliness. Temperatures will be taken before entering the classroom. It is essential that anyone involved in any school activity inform mentors and/or school personnel of symptoms, reporting any illness or health situation immediately. Class sizes will be no more than six students and 1-2 mentors. Outside visitors will not be allowed unless authorized by the Facilitator. These measures will remain in place for the safety of us all.

Class sizes are limited from 4 to 8 people. Most supplies will be provided for all students and participants, with exceptions for certain classes. Sign up today by calling, texting, or online.

2024 Spring Classes

  • Kanal Quasa- Hopi Woman’s woven dress

    Date March 4th - March 22nd. Monday through Friday from 8:00 am-1:00 pm. Location PAC, Kykotsmovi. Classroom 1. This class is for initiated Hopi men 18 years and older. Prior weaving experience is required. The class is size limited to 4 students.

  • Contemporary Hopi Dress

    Date March 4-7th. Monday thru Thursday 5:30 pm-8:30 pm. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. Students will learn how to make a contemporary off-the-shoulder dress using cotton fabric. Class size is limited to 5 students.

    Date: March 11-15th Monday through Thursday, 5:30 pm-9:30 pm. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. Students will learn to make a Zuni Dress. Class size limited to 6.

  • Beginning Crochet (Weekend Session)

    Beginning Crochet (Weekend Session) Date Saturday, March 16th from 9:00 am-4:00 pm and Sunday, March 17th, 9 am-1 pm. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom. This class is for those who are interested in learning to crochet or need a refresher course. You will learn stitches used in crotcheting Pozhohokyanapna. Class size is limited to 6 students.

    Yungyapu-3rd Mesa wicker basket Date March 25th-April 12th Monday-Friday Time: 8 am-2:30 pm. Location PAC classroom number 1, Kykotsmovi. Students will learn to weave a Hopi wicker basket. This class is for initiated 3rd mesa women. Class size is limited to 5 students.

  • Pozhohokyanapna- White crochet leggings

    Date March 26-28th and April 2-4th 5:30 pm-8:30 pm, Tuesday-Thursday. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. Students will learn how to crochet white ceremonial leggings made from cotton thread. Class size is limited to 6 students.

  • Tuu ii’hii’- A white cotton dress with applique design

    Date April 9th-11th AND April 16th-18th, Tuesday-Thursday. Time: 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. Students will learn the construction and design of a white applique dress. Class size is limited to 4 students.

  • Girl’s Contemporary Hopi Style Dress

    Date Saturday, April 13th, 9 am-4 pm AND Sunday, April 14th, 9 am-1 pm. Students will learn how to construct an off-the-shoulder Hopi Style dress using cotton fabric. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. Class size is limited to 6 students.

  • Kwatskyavuh/ Men’s woven kilt

    Date April 15th through May 3rd, Time 8am-1pm. Location PAC classroom 1, Kykotsmovi. This is a beginning weaving class for initiated Hopi men 15 years and older. No prior weaving experience is required. Class size limited to 3.

  • Hopitutuqaiki Opportunity Quilt Project

    Hopitutuqaiki Opportunity Quilt Project Initial planning meeting April 16-18th 9 am-Noon Tuesday-Thursday from 9 am through 12 noon. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. All other dates are to be determined at a later date. This is an annual volunteer project sponsored by Hopitutuqaiki. Each year up to 8 women construct a Hopi-themed quilt, which is used to raise funds for projects Hopitutuqaiki supports. (ie: the language immersions preschool, presentations, and art classes) Class size limited to 8.

  • Sewing Caddy and Sewing Machine Cover (Weekend Session)

    Date April 20th, 8-4 pm AND April 21st, 9-3 pm. Students will learn to design and construct two useful items for use in sewing and crafting. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. Class size limited to 6.

  • Contemporary Hopi Style Dress with applique designs

    April 22nd-25th. 5:30-8:30. This is an advanced class. Students will learn to construct a Hopi-style dress embellished with applique designs using cotton fabrics. Sewing experience is required to take this class. Class size is limited to 5 students.

  • Tawvongya Napna Men’sSinging Shirt

    May 6th-10th 5:30 pm-8:30 pm. Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom, Kykotsmovi. This is an advanced class. Students will learn to construct an adult Men’s shirt with embellishment. Class size is limited to 4 students.

  • Young Boy’s Vest (Weekend Session)

    Saturday, May 18th, 9-4 pm AND Sunday, May 19th, 9-1 pm Location Hopitutuqaiki classroom Kykotsmovi. Students will learn to make a Child-size vest. Class size is limited to 6 students.

  • Kwewah- Hopi Belt

    June 17th through July 12th, 8 am-12 pm Monday-Friday. Location PAC classroom1, Kykotsmovi. This class is open to initiated Hopi Men 16 years old and older. Students will learn to weave a Hopi Belt. Class size is limited to 4 students.

  • Mötsapngönkwewa (Woven Embroidered Sash)

    Dates: September 5th through October 12th Monday-Thrusaday Location: PAC classroom 4. Hours: 9am-1pm. This class is for initiated Hopi men. Students will learn to weave a Hopi sash. Weaving experience preferred. Class size limited to 4.

  • Beginning Glass Fusing

    Dates: September 5th- 9th Location: Hotevilla Glassworks off Highway 264 milepost 379.9 Hotevilla. Hours: 8am-Noon Students will use Glass Fusing techniques to create jewelry pieces using Hopi design and symbolism as inspiration. Class size limited to 4. 16+.

  • Star Quilt Top

    Dates: September 11th-14th. Location: Hopitutuqaiki classroom. Hours: 9am-4pm. Students will learn to complete a Lone Star quilt top using strip piecing. Some sewing experience is preferred. Class size limited to 6.

  • Tuu’iha (Beginning Hopi Embroidery)

    Dates: September 25th and 26th. Location: Hopitutuqaiki classroom. Hours: 5:30-8 pm. Students will learn two basic stitches in embellishing Hopi clothing and other items. This introductory class will lead to a more advanced class—no experience is required. Age 16+ Class size limited to 8.

  • Tseleekonapna (Men’s Vest)

    Dates: September 27th-29th. Location: Hopitutuqaiki classroom. Hours: 5:30-9pm. Students will learn to create, design, and construct an embellished reversible vest. Sewing experience preferred.

  • Women’s Skirt

    Dates: October 2nd and 3rd. Location: Hopitutuqaiki classroom. Hours: 5:30-9:30 pm. Students will learn to create, design, and embellish a woman’s skirt. Some sewing experience is preferred. Class size limited to 6.

  • Atöö (Woman’s Cape)

    Dates: October 2nd-27th. Location: PAC classroom 1. Hours: 8 am-1 pm. This class is for initiated Hopi Men. Students will learn to weave a Hopi cape. Weaving experience preferred. Class size limited to 4.

  • Finish Your Quilt Top

    Dates: October 14th, 9am-4pm and October 15th, 9am-3pm. Location: Hopitutuqaiki classroom. Students will bring their unfinished quilt top (no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet). The mentor will guide students in finishing their quilt using hand or machine quilting or tying and attaching binding. Class size limited to 6.

  • Beginning Crochet

    When: May 8-10th, 2023 Time: 5:30-9:30 pm.

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki building in Kykotsmovi. Students will learn to crochet using stitches that help create traditional attire. The stitches learned in this class are a prerequisite for Pozhohokyanapnah (Crochet white leggings). Class size limited to 6.

  • Pozhohokyanapnah (Crochet white leggings)

    When: May 16th-18th Tue, Wed, Thursday, and May 22nd-24th Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Time: 5:30-9:30

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki office. Students should have some crochet experience to complete this class. Two types of white leggings will be taught. Age 15+ Class size limited to 6.

    When: June 5th-8th, June 12th -15th, June 19th-22nd, and June 26th-June 29th (Monday through Thursday) Time: 8 am-1 pm.

  • Pitkuna Embroidery

    When: June 5th-30th (Monday through Friday). Time:6pm-9 pm.

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki office. Students will learn to embroider on a Kwatskevuh or Monk’s cloth. Ages: 18+. Class size limited to 6.

  • Fabric Crafts

    When: July 10-12th (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Time: 6 pm-9 pm.

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki office. Students will use basic sewing techniques to complete a one-of-a-kind tote bag, zippered pouch, and key fob. Ages 14+.Class size limited to 6.

    When: July 24th-26th (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Time: 1 pm-4 pm.

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki office. This class requires general knowledge of applique techniques. Students will learn how to construct a cape used in ceremonies. Age 16+. Class size limited to 4.

  • Introduction to Machine Sewing

    When: March 7-9th, 2023, Time: 1-5 pm

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki building in Kykotsmovi AZ

    A beginner class or those who want to review basic machine sewing techniques. Students are encouraged to bring their machines; however, machines are available for class use. Ages 12+, class size limited to 6.

  • SIO QWASA (Zuni dress)

    When: March 13-16th, 2023 (Monday through Thursday) Time: 5:30-9 pm.

  • 9 PATCH QUILT TOP

    When: April 4-6th 2023 Time: 9-1 pm

    For those with basic sewing skills. Students will learn to construct a basic 9-patch quilt top. Students are encouraged to bring their sewing machines; however, machines are available for class use. Class size limited to 5.

    When: April 10th through May 5th (Monday through Thursday). Four weeks total. Time: 8-1 pm.

    This class is for initiated Hopi men aged 15+. This is an introduction to Hopi weaving. Students will learn to weave a Hopi kilt. Supplies will be provided. Class size limited to 4.

  • FABRIC NOTEBOOK COVER

    When: April 21, 2023 Time: 6-9 pm

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki building in Kykotsmovi.

    Create a 5X7 decorative fabric notebook cover using various techniques. Supplies will be provided. Class size limited to 6.

  • FREE MOTION QUILTING

    When: April 22, 2023 Time: 9-5 pm

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki building in Kykotsmovi.

    Create a whole cloth quilt/wall hanging using machine quilting techniques. Supplies will be provided. Class size limited to 6.

  • NOOVA (Hopi foods)

    When: May 30th to June 2nd (Tuesday through Friday). Time: 8-4 pm, Wednesday thru Friday 8-1 pm

    Location: Iskasokpu Gallery at highway 264 Milepost marker 380.4. Soo’ngopavi village.

    This class will teach the preparation of several Hopi foods. Supplies will be provided. Ages 12+, class size limited to 6 students.

  • TSATASAKMUY YUWSIAM (Children’s Clothing)

    CLASS IS FILLED

    When: May 9-10th, 2023 Time: 1-4 pm

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki building in Kykotsmovi.

    For those with basic sewing skills. Students will learn to construct two infant/toddler-sized items for infants and toddlers. Students are encouraged to bring their Sewing machines; however, machines are available for class use. Supplies will be provided. Class size limited to 5.

  • OPPORTUNITY QUILT GATHERING

    When: March 14, 2024

    A volunteer project to benefit Hopitutuqaiki. Meet every second Tuesday of the month beginning on March 14th from 9-4 pm. A mentor-guided project in constructing the 2023 Opportunity quilt.

    Location: Hopitutuqaiki building, Kykotsmovi

    For experienced quilters. It is similar to an old-fashioned Hopi quilting bee. Past quilts have been appraised at over $5000. We will sell tickets for a drawing, and winners will be announced at the Prescott Indian Art Market in September 2023. All proceeds from the quilt will benefit Hopitutuqaiki and the programs we support. Class size limited to 8.
